Personality: From the outside, Pearl appears to be very calm and collected with great knowledge on many different subject and an eye for key details. However, she suffers from low self-esteem, feeling like she can’t do anything unless she follows someone. Whenever something goes wrong, she slowly starts to freak out, feeling like she had failed those close to her. Due to the nature of Gems, Pearl doesn’t always understand why humans do things a certain way but finds traits of them to be amazing. She tries her best to understand their ways through may make comments which may seem to be rude to those who don’t realize she is a Gem at first by mistake.
Pearl is very loyal to those she cares for, willing to do whatever she can to help and would even be willing to die in order to protect them. As soon as she realizes she has hurt someone, she apologizes and tries to do whatever she can to make things better. She is usually polite and reserved to others and tries to set things orderly and tidy.
History: Long before magic and non magic users were common in Lunaville, beings known as Gems lived on the land, Gems being an advanced magical race hoping to find a home. They were gemstone which took different types of forms and used magic to survive and creature their way of life. Originally, Pearl was a mere servant to Pink Diamond, one of the highest class of the gems. However, Pearl soon met Rose Quarz who questioned the way of gems due to how gems couldn’t choose their own fate. Pearl found it silly at first but slowly started to see things as Rose did. She even fell in love with Rose when Rose defended Pearl from soldiers who had wished to smash Pearl after a small miss up on a job. Once Pearl learned Rose plan to start a rebel, Pearl begged to be taught to fight so she could help Rose in her goal. Through not wanting to risk Pearl’s life, Rose soon agreed, knowing the skills would help keep Pearl safer. Along with other allies, Pearl fought alongside Rose in the rebel. The rebel started out as mere attacks, then to fights, and finally became a full out war. One that would go on for many years.
The war ended when the Diamonds and lucky gems fled the battlefield and the Diamonds unleashed an attack to corrupt all reminding gems, rather it be friend or foe. Rose had shield herself, Pearl, and a follow Crystal Gem member named Garnet, saving their lives. Being the only reminding gems there at they knew of, Rose vowed to protect the land and gathered the corrupted gems to seal them away until a cure was found to restore them back to normal.
For a long time, the Crystal Gems acted as the protectors of the land, saving many lives of magic and non-magic users from many different focus. Course, that changed when the High Council was formed. After most disagreements, it was chosen that the Gems would step down as the protectors and only be allowed to take action if Gem kind had something to do with an event. While it angered Pearl deep down, she agreed for the sake of Rose and their allies. The last time she wanted was another war to break out.
However, Pearl’s life with Rose didn’t least. At one point, Rose met and fell in love with a human named Greg Universe which led Rose to give up her form to give born to Steven Universe. Broken hearted over the lose of her first and only love, Pearl vowed to protect Steven and to continue to follow in Rose’s wishes the best she can. Her vow to protect Steven is one of the reasons she became a teacher at the school. She took up history since in Yuko’s word “Who better to teach history than someone who saw it with their ever eyes.”
