Name: Alphonse Elric
Nicknames: Al (by most though mostly Ed), The Armored Alchemist, Armor Boy, The Little Armored Boy.
Age: 14-15
Personality: Compared to his older brother Edward, in many ways, Alphonse acts as a foil to his brother’s hot-headed and abrasive personality with his calm and passive disposition. Al is kindhearted and most notably compassionate and patient almost to a fault, acting often out of protective selflessness for his loved ones, new friends and even towards his enemies. Having his psychological growth stunted at the age of ten due to the lost of his physical body. Alphonse still retains a childlike purity in the face of all of his encountered horrors and changes; however despite his age Alphonse has always displayed a significantly higher level of maturity than his older brother. Though Al is passionate as his brother he has remarked his anger takes longer to spark and jokes he is frequently beaten by Ed’s own outbursts. Though despite this, Al does have insecurities about his own uncertain existence inside a suit of armor. Al craves the human warmth of his former life in desperate silence and fears he will never know closeness and is sometimes overwhelmed by the suspicion he is not human. Unknown to others, especially Roy and Ed, Alphonse still carries the added burden of blaming himself for the failure of bringing his mother back from the dead and the loss of his brother’s limbs. Much like how Edward detests his diminutive stature, Alphonse greatly dislikes of being reminded of his large size often becoming melancholy when it calls undue attention to him, lamenting that it was not his choice to become so big. He displays a great deal of joy when people treat him as a child instead of the adult persona he tends to give off on others.
Alphonse also displays a great affection for animals and this eventually developed a bad habit of picking up strays hiding them from his brother in his armor. To which Ed, disapproves from. Alphonse also seems to have a fondness for women. A bit sensitive, Alphonse has a gift for giving complementary and inspirational speeches that surpasses his older brother. Aside from the warmth of physical contact, one of the biggest things Alphonse seems to miss the most about having a human body is the warmth of delicious food. He frequently keeps a journal as suggested by Roy and Ed of all the various foods he will eat upon returning to his body and one food that seems to be on his mind the most is having apple pie.
History: Alphonse Elric was born just a year younger than his brother Edward under Trisha and Van Hohenheim Elric. For the first few years of his life, he was just like any other child, despite the short-lived abuse of his brother Edward. However it wasn’t until he was just a toddler when thing changed for him when his father left their family for reasons unknown to him leaving his only family to be his brother and mother. Through the years, the Elrics had lived in peace without no problems. Alphonse had also started to display a remarkable talent for Alchemy along with his brother at a young age much to the joyfulness astonishment of their mother. However it wasn’t until one year when that peacefulness was disrupted by the sudden discovery of his mother contracting an illness which she soon died not that much later, leaving only Ed and Alphonse left to themselves.
Lost and completely confused with their mother dead and their father seemingly abandoned them. Alphonse and Ed decided to run away until they were discovered by the police and sent to the orphanage in Lunaville. It was then Edward had told Alphonse that they were going to bring back their mother. They would soon spend the next few years researching everything they could possibly find about how to bring back their mother along with continuing to practice their Alchemy. But when they found out that the orphanage didn’t have what they were looking for, so they decided to sneak back to their old home to which they would do this for the next several months. Along the way they had met up with a girl named Winry Rockbell who grew to become one of their closest friends, and eventually meeting a young woman named Izumi Curtis who taught them everything she could about Alchemy. It wasn’t until one day several months later, they finally decided it was time to bring back their mother. However...the results didn’t go as planned...the results were drastic as Alphonse had lost his entire body while his brother Edward lost his arm and leg in the process. In a desperate attempt to save his injured brother, Alphonse carried his brother all the way back to the orphanage not even caring about what would even happen to him and Al. It was that moment as they got back to the orphanage Al had been brought face to face with a teacher from Arcane who seeked to enroll them in the school. However that was not the case when the teacher, named Roy Mustang learned what they had done and grew furious at them for breaking one of the laws. Al feared whether or not he and his brother were going to be reported and separated from his brother. But Al had grown surprised when he had learned that Roy was going to adopt them instead, despite everything. As they listened to Roy’s explanation and promise to the two boys to help them bring their bodies back. Al and Ed sat alone to discuss about what Roy offered. Al wasn’t completely sure at first but Ed was determined to do whatever it took to bring back their bodies. It took a matter of five minutes of them talking them out until they finally made their decision. And the next thing Al knew was that he had found himself on a mission with his brother and on their way to Arcane where they would be ready for the day Ed and Al got their bodies back.
