Name: Stanford Filbrick Pines
Nicknames: Ford (most people), Professor Pines (some students and staff), Grunkle Ford (Dipper and Mabel), Poindexter (Stan), The Author, Journal 3 (when his soul is stuck in Journal 3)
Age: In his 60s
Species: Human
Power: Possession
Occupation: Magical Creature/Paranormal investigator and Former Magical Creatures teacher
Personality: Very intelligent and introverted, Ford can be serious when it comes to his research and he has knowledge on most spells and mythical creatures. However, he can be simple-minded at times when it comes to technology and moral codes such as giving youths weapons. Some call him old school teaching. He can get paranoid and cautious with some people, but would open up and lend his students knowledge to help them along the way. Due to his past, he keeps secrets and tends to do things himself rather than ask others for help. He is very fond of Dipper and Mabel however and would spend time with them if he could. He is interested in calculations, anything considered unusual, and of science fiction. He also writes notes in journals and would document every creature and race he encounters.
(Journal 3) As Journal 3, the Journal, or 3 as some people call it, this is mostly the part of Ford who is excited about magical knowledge, very detailed, yet also paranoid at the same time. He would have trust issues for first-time readers, but would warm up to some people such as Dipper, Mabel, and some of their friends. He would have the same emotions as when Ford first wrote that part of the journal. He tries to help the reader the best he can and hides information when he needs to. Curious and suspicious, Journal 3 tries to be a helpful ally for the readers that he trusts.
History: Ford Pines was born in Glass Shard Beach, New Jersey along with his twin brother Stanley by two non-magic users. He had an unusually high I.Q. at a young age and a rare birth defect that gave him six fingers on each hand. Even though they were different, Stanley and Stanford were the best of friends, always helping each other out and striving for adventure. Not only were they ridiculed for their non-magic, but of Ford's fingers and Stan being weak. But they compensated each other for their brain and brawn. As they grew older, Ford was successful in his studies while Stan was doing poorly. At a science fair in high school, a well-known university was looking to accept Ford if he won the fair, which would mean leaving his brother for college. Although he would miss his brother, Ford wanted to have a promising future for himself, telling Stan that he'll join his brother if he wasn't accepted. On the day of the science fair, he found that his project stopped working and was shut down from the university. He suspected that Stan rigged it on purpose for his own selfish goals. Informing his parents, his father kicked out Stan from the house, separating the two brothers for a while.
With his dreams shattered and his only friend gone, Ford struggled to find a college that would accept him, making him apply to many scholarships from different schools. One school that replied back was the Arcane Magia Academy, a school known for magic that recently opened for non-magic students. With his interests still in the supernatural, Ford agreed to go to the academy and move to Lunaville. When he got there, he was amazed to find many species whether human or non-human, power or no power all together in one place. He studied hard at Arcane, both in his academic studies and how to survive the world of magic with no powers. He became one of the students the top of his class and received grant money from the school for being one of the first non-magic users to graduate. Ford decided that he want to research on the magical and mythical races and creatures in Lunaville, hoping to go down in history as a genius and share his knowledge with others. When he graduated, he became the Magical Creatures 401 teacher at Arcane Magia once he studied the creatures and analyzed them in numbered journals. During this time, he came upon weird symbols in a cave nearby and encountered a strange being in his dreams. The being claimed himself to be a muse who admired Ford's intellect and wanted to help him with his goals. Seeing that the being was the only other person who acknowledged him, Ford agreed, worshiping his muse and keeping him a secret from others. With his muse's help, Ford planned to create a portal to prove there was a reason why Lunaville is a special place for magic. As he taught classes, he would enlist other researchers that he trusted on his quest in his free time.
With teaching and building the portal, Ford got tired easily and would fall asleep constantly. The muse offered him to take over his body while he would sleep. Trusting him, Ford agreed and shook the being's hand, letting his muse possess him. He let him do this many times except when he had to teach classes. It happened so many times that the muse taught Ford how to temporarily possess a person for a time limit. Ford tried it out a couple of times, possessing scientists to gather information or creatures who were on a rampage. He figured that as long as it was a short amount of time, there would be no harm done.
However, tragedy struck when the portal was completed and a test run was being made. The people who had helped Ford went insane, quitting from the project. When that happened, Ford started to hear voices in his head and his right eye started bleeding. He found out that his muse tricked him into creating a portal to bring his dimension to Earth's dimension. Feeling betrayed and used, Stanford hated the being, regretting his mistakes as he shut down the portal. He started losing his mind, believing others were possessed by his muse and that his new power of possession would be used for evil. With that, Ford quit his job as a teacher in order to not harm his students and to hide the journals so his new enemy wouldn't find them. After hiding two of the journals, he called his twin brother over to bring him to Lunaville, thinking that Stan would be the only person he could trust. Once Stan arrived, Ford ordered him to hide the last remaining journal and get far away from Lunaville. At that, Stan snapped and the two brothers fought for a while, fist fighting each other. During the fight, Ford prepared to possess Stan so he could stop while Stan tried to shield himself while saying a random spell from the journal he was holding. In a rage, both brothers acted with Ford's soul split in two due to the spell that Stan read and half of Ford's soul flew away towards his most prized possession: his recent third journal whereas the other half bounced back into Ford. When that happened, the portal accidentally got activated and Stanford found himself floating towards the portal, being pulled in. He begged for his brother to help him, but he couldn't reach his brother's hand as he was sucked into another dimension, leaving Stanley alone.
Now Ford is split in two; one half travelling through different dimensions in order to correct his past mistakes and the other half stuck inside Journal 3, hidden in a safe compartment somewhere, waiting for someone to free him and reunite with his other half, having no major memories of his history and having only written word as his communication.
Face Claim: Ford Pines and Journal 3 from "Gravity Falls".
