Spirits Around Us [Tag: Rei]

The man was smoking his cigarette while looking around the train station to find his assigned student. The sooner he can pick the said student, the sooner he can get back to his place. He took out profile paper from the pocket of his trenchcoat. The profile stated his name to be Rei complete with his birth date, a picture of him, everything. What struck his interest is his ability to see and communicate with the dead. Perhaps this lad is more interesting than he thought, unlike other student with either standard or silly attributes.

He then looked to see Rei looking around the train station.

He reviewed the paper to make sure he had the right person.

He took the cigarette from his mouth and called out the boy "Oy! You! Rei!!" the man called.

The man examined the boy for a bit, still not believing someone like him would have this strange ability. He put his cigarette into his mouth and took a huff before he spoke "The headmistress said I am suppose to pick you up. Name's John, John Constantine"

John however just stood there and took another huff from his cigarette, not the kind of man into social etiquette.

"Come on, I'll show ye to your school" John said walking off.

The two were walking through town bustling with people. The automobiles here were equally many. Though they are not like modern day cars. Instead the automobiles here are modeled and built no different from the ones manufactured in the early 20th century.

John did not say anything, wanting to get this job over and done with. He looked back at Rei, who was enjoying the sights of the city, making sure he was following.

"Yeah, a real splendor" John said, not seeming to care while taking out his cigarette box for another smoke, only to find it empty

"Bollocks..." John cursed, seeing there were no more cigarettes for him to feed his chain smoking habit. As you can see John would smoke a lot, which earned him complaints from the teacher and the student for his breath stink of tobacco. Today, he didn't seem to smoke much, but only because he had one cigarette left when he was waiting for Rei.

He threw his now empty box into a trash bin nearby.

"'Ey this may not be in my place, but can I ask you somethin'?" John inquired, now wanting to strike a conversation with Rei.

"Accordin' to your files, you can see spirits, yes?" John asked.

The boy's ability piqued John's interest due to his affinity for spirits himself. In the past, he was a conman. But rumor has it that besides swindling other magic users and non-magic users, he can also swindle spirits, demons, faeries, angels and even gods. Though this wasn't his only profession, on occasion he was a spirit detective, an exorcist, and if need be a summoner for spirits. But he would do so through rituals or magical artifacts, which is the subject he teaches at the academy, with mostly non-magic users as his students, particularly Trixie who is more than invigorated to learn the secret of learning how to channel magic by other means.

"I have dealt with spirits in my past years" said John "I talked to'em, fought them, even conned them on some occasions, even swindled demons and gods and angels a few times" he boasted.

"No need to apologize Lad" John replied "There are a selected few who have delved into the realm that no magic users've gone b'fore. The world of spirits is a delicate place, and everyone tends to play around with it as if it were a game of truth or dare you'd find in wee girls' slumber parties."

"One of the mysteries I cannot solve either Lad. Each person is unique in their own way" answered John "Being able to see those blokes is a rare stuff. Reminds of one bloke who tried to achieve this feat by gettin' 'imself high, true story"

The two would walk through town for a few more minutes without saying a word, they then stopped in an area where there were cabs, either in forms of steam powered automobiles or carriages. Cable cars are also a common mode of transportation. Though the first former is mostly used for faster transportation. In Lunaville, the technology used here is quite simple, since it values conservationism. Though modern technology is welcomed, and used as well. But it will not be as efficient as in other towns since this town is heavily influenced by magic. If one is to use network communications, they need particular magical items to power it and make communications with their companions or family members.

"The technology is pretty primitive here, since magic is the big thing in this joint" explained John "But in time, you will get used to usin' steam powered automobiles. But if you like to take it slow, horse drawn carriages are a way to go."

"Another thing I need to warn you about this town and this school" John said to Rei "Since you can see spirits, you may be in for a ghost fest. The people here said there are haunted places in this town. Some places are what the Headmistress and I call bollocks on since some of those claims are gimmicks to attract tourists, but some are a real deal. But there's a high chance you'll see spooks and twisted looking spirits around here too."

John tried to think of an example of a place there are lots of spirits "Well, the shrine does have a high concentration of spirits, but they're harmless. Certain areas in the academy are haunted. Some ghosts are friendly, most wish to be left alone. There are some that can be violent if you rub them the wrong way. In fact, ghosts hate it if you mess around with them...I got bumps and bandages to prove it..."
